The tournament features 10 teams from South America: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela. The teams compete in a round-robin format, followed by knockout stages.
WinnersUruguay has won the tournament the most times, with 15 titles, followed by Argentina with 14 titles. Brazil has won the tournament 9 times, and Paraguay and Peru have won it twice each. Chile, Colombia, and Bolivia have won it once each.
Hosts
Argentina has hosted the tournament the most times, with 9 editions held on their soil. Uruguay has hosted it 6 times, and Brazil has hosted it 5 times. Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Venezuela have hosted it once each.
In 2016, the tournament celebrated its 100th anniversary, and it was hosted by the United States. It was the first time that the tournament was held outside of South America. Chile won the tournament, beating Argentina in the final.
